July 2025 Garden Update

Needless to say, I expected to be sharing more of my gardening adventures with you this year. That being said, I've always maintained that putting my enjoyment of daily life always comes before making content. So, I'm not mad at it, just playing a little catch up.

When starting my seeds in the spring I thought about what all I had had in the garden in 2024. I decided to try and have more types of tomatoes. Last year I only had a few cherry tomato plants and a lot of Roma tomatoes. That made it feel like we never had enough until the Roma tomatoes were ready. I planted Roma, Sweetie, Jubilee, Yellow Pear, Midnight Snack, and Chocolate Cherry. They're all doing pretty well, with the Midnight Snack almost ready to start picking.

As far as peppers go, I only managed to get 2 Bell Peppers, a small pepper variety, and 4 jalapenos to make it through to the summer. My dad gave me 2 regular sweet pepper plants and I recently purchased 2 shishito plants from the store.

I only got a few sweet potato slips to make it. They're all in 1 five gallon bucket. I'm hopeful for a bigger harvest than last year.

My plethora of 2nd year scallions are doing great. I can go out whenever I want to get scallions for everything. I did try getting some zinnias from seed but they didn't come up. My calendula reseeded everywhere, though, and there will be an explosion of flowers soon!

I had a significant flush of wine cap mushrooms in the spring! I ended up sautéing and freezing them so I can use them in miscellaneous dishes whenever I want. Speaking of mushrooms, I have given the logs a nice place to set. I'll also be starting some mushroom buckets with more spawn tomorrow! I'll make a video for that, top.

Everything is doing pretty good, actually. Just a waiting game. Beans, squash, raspberries, everything. Starting more seeds this week as well, for more heat tolerant greens.
